Four years for the Sandfields man who crashed the car he stole

Four years in prison is the price of one night on Arthur Street. Marcus Thomas, 37, of Sandfields, entered a home there as a trespasser in the early hours of June 1, stole the car keys inside, and reversed the stolen vehicle into a van, damaging both. A second front door on the same street held because it was locked.

Thomas pleaded guilty in July to burglary, attempted burglary, aggravated vehicle-taking, vehicle damage of 5,000 pounds or more, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance. Alongside the four-year sentence comes a five-year driving ban. Detective Constable Joseph Wilcox said the behaviour was the sort which makes people feel unsafe in their own homes, and that there is no place for it on the streets of Neath Port Talbot.
